SITUATING OURSELVES

I plan to teach English in a public High school, in Ambato, a city in the  highlands, in Ecuador. As I apply for the goverment schoolarship, I have to work mandatory with teenagers for the next two years.

In Ecuador, the  public High schools are free. They are paid  by the goverment and there are about 40 students per class.  The classrooms are big, but there are not  electronic devices like computers, overhead proyectors, etc in every class. There are some classrooms specially designed for it, but it makes much  more difficult for teachers to use some tools, specially internet in classes. Many of the students come from poor families, so  it is almost always a  disadvantage.

Some public schools have a great prestigue: qualified teachers, appropriate buildings, and the most important thing, they are free. Books are given to all the students for free.

To help my students,  I need to be conscious about their ages. Teenagers tend to be unpredictable  and moody.
I should  learn several  methodological strategies, even psychology to guide them in the correct way.
Besides, learners should take a diagnostic test to see in which English level they are, in order that I can determine their strengths and weakness.
Learners admire and respect more to qualified proffesors, so that I must train constantly to achieve my goals and encourage them to study a foreign language.

Both students and teachers play an important role in Education, students should effort by themselves to be better and contribute with the  Ecuadorian education.
