Post: Consider the context in which you plan to teach
English (type of students, region, and type of school). What do you think you
will need to know to help your students learn? Why?
Teaching English in Ecuador has been a hard task for
the empirical way the processes have been carried out. Educational authorities,
through the times, have intended to give some alternatives to solve this
problem, especially in Public Education, making agreements with English
language nations. A good example of this was the arrangement between British
Council of UK and Ecuador Government with the CRADLE Project. This commitment permitted
to have an English Educational System based in Ecuadorian reality, but
according to many professors and students it is now obsolete because it does
not embrace international requirements.
Considering Ecuador is a multicultural and multiethnic
country and English need to be taught based in international standards, it is
necessary to make new researches in each region to know the real necessities of
the students and teachers regarding to the English language teaching learning
process; it is also recommendable to figure out if the sceneries where the
procedure is been carried out has the required facilities to teach this
language properly. Once this diagnosis is established, it is possible to run
out a plan of improvements to create a proper environment to develop the
academic process. This systematical and evidenced research will permit to know
real necessities and projections and assure successful results.
With these results, it will be easier to set up the
right methodological strategies to motivate students and attract their
attention toward a significant and permanent learning. Finally, it is important to remember that is
essential to plan according to students’ interests and necessities because it
is the only way they feel committed to have a better world in the future.
