CONSIDER THE CONTEXT IN WICH YOU PLAN TO TEACH ENGLISH (TYPE OF STUDENTS, REGION, TYPE OF SCHOOL). WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU WILL NEED TO KNOW TO HELP YOUR STUDENTS LEARN? WHY?
Countries like Ecuador are well known for its banana exportation, and now days are also visited for people all around the world, who are looking for places to relax and have fun with touristic purposes. All visitors that come to South America they speak English. That is the reason why we must concern the importance of being prepared to receive those people and give them good impression by using our foreign language knowledge correctly.
I am the Principal of one High School in Baños de Agua Santa, this is a small town located in the entrance of the Amazon Region. The mayority of the families there make a living from tourism. In this situation, English is one of the languages “Baneños” should speak, but unfortunately they do not. New tourist attractions are being discovered around Baños, and young bilingual tour guides are needed, this is the future of developing there. The culture there for parents is to leave their children the business they started. In such instance I may worry about the education process as a teacher. We are now focused in teaching English for communication in real situations. In other words, we are trying to change the minds of our students, reminding them the importance of not wasting their time while they are teenagers and education has no cost. The benefits they have now no longer will be available for free as they grow up.
In the future all the oil that support the economy in my country will be gone, and now, the Government is investing in developing new areas that will last by themselves. Is important to go on activities that protect nature, tourism is one of them.
