Discuss your own
experience as a multilingual. What are
the challenges of using a language other than your mother tongue? What are the benefits? What do you hope to learn/perfect about your own English language use? What do you hope to learn/perfect about using
English in a language classroom context?
Being a multilingual teacher is very useful not
only to get good job opportunities also for communicating with others and make
new friends. In my case, I had the chance of studying French and English at the
same time, but I could never apply French in my jobs and I started to lose it
easily. Now I understand it a little
bit, while my English still continues with me.
According to the challenges of using a language
other than mine, I think the most difficult one is to keep it with you as part
of your daily life and try to avoid losing it easily as it happened to me because
there was no any need of using French in my previous jobs as a Bilingual
Secretary. Besides, this world is already globalized through the internet,
which lets us communicate with others and learn from other cultures, using
international languages that open many doors around the whole world.
When I enrolled to this international program,
I knew it was going to be a good chance to enrich my English language through
immersion and at the same time learn more about the colloquial language and
idiomatic expressions that native speakers use in their daily life, which are
not written in books and make me feel that I still need to learn more about
English.
As part of this international course, I
consider that learning English in a language classroom context is more
essential than learning it as a simple language class because I can learn more
about its culture and the new approaches, these people are using to teach
English well around the world. We do
not have to forget that English is an international language that many people
use it for many purposes.
