Being a language teacher might seem easy, considering if you are a native speaker of the language which is taught, but being a second language teacher might be more challenging than the first one. As an English Teacher I faced some challenges during the last three years, in terms of cultural background and also not being able to speak accurately. Teaching English as a second language is not only concerned about transmitting words, rules and so on in order to be able to communicate, but it is also concerned about transmitting cultural features within the English Language, and lacking this cultural background might be a problem or a challenge instead.
Learning English and becoming bilingual in Ecuador is probably an old-fashioned and well-known idea, but still everyone agrees that a person who is able to speak English, it is going to have more or even better opportunities regarding his/her professional life. Benefits that can even be much greater depending on the field we might enroll in the future. However it is also well-known that in the past years, English Teaching guidelines in Ecuador has not been improved, causing a low proficiency level on our students. Hopefully this conception is about to change.
And I also hope to acquire such amount of knowledge and experience in order to led me to a higher English level and being able to transmit not only a set of rules of a language, but a cultural background that comes within it.
